Comments: Tong Yuen are eaten at Festival of the Winter Solstice. It fortifies the stomach for the winter . The dumplings can be made without any filling or filled with a small slab of brown candy. Other choices include sesame or fragrant wok-roasted peanuts ground with sugar. The roundness of the dumpling signifies family unity and completion. We like it because the dough is tender as well as chewy. It is not difficult to make dumplings, so many people prepare them at home. It is also an enjoyable and warm-hearted time when the whole family prepares the dumpling together.
