Q:Why don’t contemporary youngsters join the trade?

< .. There is a movie here.

Sing : Honestly, if you become a master formally, the daily salary is around HK$400. But nowadays many things are from mainland China, not produced in Hong Kong. Even those produced in Hong Kong are simple stuff, like apartments and gardens. A young person can do such jobs being paid HK$7000 to $8000 a month.

Interviewer: Is it difficult to find people to join this trade? Is it difficult to find in Hong Kong?

Sing:Can’t find young people to join. If you become a salesperson or find a job in the customer service industry, you can also get something around $7,000 and $8,000. There’s no point to face these dead people stuff everyday then.

Interviewer: So, there is a taboo.

Sing: Many people quit their jobs after one or two days.

You always face this stuff. From 9am in the morning until 5:30 pm, facing the same stuff everyday. If you choose, you can work as a salesperson and earn $8,000, why choose working in this industry?

Analysis

Talking with Sing, we can learn that most young people are unwilling to join the paper offerings industry. The biggest problem is salary. In Hong Kong, the medium of individual monthly income is $10,000. But a person working in the paper offerings industry can earn only $8,000. It’s a low-paid job.

Producing paper offerings is a boring job because a worker produces the same products everyday. But in Hong Kong, a international business hub, there are more comfortable and challenging jobs available.

Also, because of the traditional death taboo, young people are not willing to join the industry, so that there are enough people working in this trade.
