These peculiar sidewalk restaurants served a variety of unique Hong Kong style food and drink. Delicacies include fried rice, fried noodle, pan fried mussels and clams in black bean sauce. Dai Pai Dong style coffee and tea is made to bring out the full flavour and aroma of the beverage attracting people that walks by to stop and have a drink. Now some western dishes are served as well.
The bill is settled by cash. No service charge is needed. The food is cheap and fast. But the main attraction is open air eating, where one can watch the world go by 避風塘炒蟹
