Marriage is an important stage in one's life. At first, it is a ritual to govern the relationship of men and women. But as time goes on, holy customs are gradually developed. They prove the union of a man and a woman well. As people live in different environments, customs vary in different places. Traditional Chinese customs tend to be complicated, for example, Three Letters and Six Etiquette, formal gifts for the bride's family, combing hair and returning home, etc. The Chinese are superstitious as they believe red brings them good luck. Even number is auspicious. As a result, invitation cards are usually red in colour. The gifts to the bride are in pairs. Compared with the Chinese, westerners observe fewer customs, like throwing bouquet at the wedding ceremony. Hong Kong is a place of mixture of cultures, so its marital customs have special features, combining both Chinese and western customs. On the one hand, Hong Kongers keep traditional values as long as they are not too complicated. On the other hand, they will include western elements which are more modernized in their wedding. It is hoped that this website can give you a sweet memory of marriage in Hong Kong.
